SUMMARY OF TOPICS
The following topics for the Standard for Electric Signs, UL 48, are being recirculated:
1. The Proposed Fifteenth Edition of the Standard for Electric Signs, UL 48, including the following changes: a) Reorganized and clarified requirements to improve usability of the standard; b) Revised and updated scope to clarify products covered by standard such as art forms and Class 2 powered signs; c) Expansion of glossary to define additional terms; d) Updating of test requirements; e) and f) Updating sign requirements to include additional lighting sources such as LCD and LED; g) Adding the requirements for residential neon signs that currently are covered in the UL Outline of Investigation, Subject 48A; h) Updating and clarifying component requirements including eliminating specific component requirements previously specified in UL 48 but now covered by the Standard for Electric Sign Components, UL 879; and i) Updating the grounding and bonding requirements to reflect changes made in the 2011 NEC providing an exception for bonding of remote channel letters that are supplied by a remote a Class 2 supply.
