1 Scope

1.1 This standard describes the apparatus, test methods, and formulas to be used in carrying out the tests and calculations required by wire and cable standards.

1.2 Specific acceptance requirements are found in individual product standards.

1.3 Where a test method indicates a “specified” test parameter or condition, the parameter or condition is found in the individual product standard.

Summary of Topics

This reaffirmation of ANSI/UL 2556 dated January 28, 2026 is issued to update the title page to reflect the most recent designation as a Reaffirmed American National Standard (ANS). No technical changes have been made.

As noted in the Commitment for Amendments statement located on the back side of the title page, ULSE, CSA, and ANCE are committed to updating this harmonized standard jointly. However, the revisions dated January 28, 2026 will not be jointly issued by ULSE, CSA, and ANCE as these revision pages only address UL ANSI approval dates.
