Abstract u112_4_20251222_abstract.html1 Scope
1.1 These requirements and methods of test apply to fire damper assemblies rated 3/4 hour, 1 hour, 1-1/2 hours, 2 hours, or 3 hours for use in air-conditioning and ventilating system ducts or openings (without ducts) piercing horizontally or vertically oriented fire separations where the fire separations are required to have a fire resistance rating of not more than 4 hours.
1.2 These fire damper assemblies are intended for installation in accordance with the provincial or municipal building regulations that are based on the National Building Code of Canada.
1.3 Tests made in conformity with these test methods will register performance during the fire-test exposure under laboratory conditions; but such tests shall not be construed as determining suitability for use after exposure to fire.
1.4 It is the intent that tests made in conformity with these test methods will develop data to enable regulatory bodies to determine the suitability of damper assemblies for use in locations where fire resistance of a specified duration is required.
1.5 Fire dampers are evaluated for use as either:
a) Fire Dampers for Static Systems – For HVAC systems that are automatically shut down in the event of a fire or for air transfer openings in walls or partitions;
b) Fire Dampers for Dynamic Systems – For HVAC systems that are operational in the event of a fire.
1.6 A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this Standard does not comply with this Standard.
