029050-000000-0000001 Scope
1.1 This environmental claims validation procedure (ECVP) provides the procedure and requirements for validation of a sensor used to measure the concentration/level of a pollutant (analyte) or environmental factor when that concentration/level of a factor is used as an indication of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). This ECVP addresses validation for sensors used for indoor applications in non-industrial buildings.
1.2 Monitors or sensors used to confirm regulatory compliance of ambient (outdoor) air are not covered by the scope of this procedure.
1.3 This ECVP recognizes that measurements of different indoor pollutants may be based on different physical or chemical principles. The intent of this ECVP is to evaluate performance for the claimed analytes or environmental factors (parameters) in the relevant concentration range, regardless of the measurement principle.
1.4 This ECVP is intended to apply to an integrated IAQ sensor device, but is open to any IAQ sensors capable of measuring the analytes or factors of interest.
1.5 This ECVP recognizes that environmental factors (e.g. temperature, humidity) can affect performance. However, the focus of this ECVP is on IAQ applications – mostly in mechanically ventilated buildings – where environmental conditions are kept within reasonable limits, so the emphasis of the evaluation is on adequate sensitivity. Environmental or other interferences may be addressed in subsequent editions of this ECVP.
1.6 This ECVP recognizes that sensor response should exhibit linearity and accommodate hysteresis. As the emphasis of the evaluation in this ECVP is to establish adequate sensitivity to be practical, additional features of the sensor response are excluded from the current scope, but may be addressed in subsequent editions of this ECVP.
