The publication of this standard represents UL's Seventh Edition of ANSI/UL 60079-1 which is effective September 18, 2015, while being available for UL certification upon publication.

CONTINUING CERTIFICATION APPROACH

Regarding previous edition of UL 60079-1:
• • The Sixth edition of UL 60079-1 remains in effect until October 1, 2020. The Sixth Edition of UL 60079-1 will remain available for UL certifications until officially withdrawn on October 1, 2020.
• • The Sixth edition is the current minimum standard for UL certifications involving UL 60079-1. Regarding products currently UL certified to the Sixth edition of UL 60079-1, they will be allowed to continue after October 1, 2020. These certifications will not be withdrawn provided there are no changes to the design of the flameproof equipment that require a certification decision to determine compliance. Changes to the design of flameproof equipment that require a certification decision to determine compliance will require an evaluation of the equipment, in its entirety, to the Seventh edition of UL 60079-1.
• • After October 1, 2020 only the Seventh Edition of UL 60079-1 can be used for establishing new certifications of Flameproof equipment.
