00508k-000000-0000001 Scope
1.1 This Outline of Investigation applies to switch rated load and source connectors with a rated operating voltage not exceeding 600 V ac or dc and a rated current not exceeding 800 A. The switch rated load and source connectors are manual motor controllers where motor switching is done by a manual means other than plugging/unplugging the load connector into/out of the source connector. The load connector/source connector shall not have the ability to be plugged or unplugged under load. These devices are intended to provide power from branch circuits, or they are for direct connection to the branch and motor circuit in accordance with NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC®), using copper conductors, for use in either indoor or outdoor nonhazardous locations.
1.2 This Outline of Investigation does not apply to non-interlocking switch rated (including motor rated) plugs and receptacles which are covered by the Outline of Investigation for Switch-rated Plugs and Receptacles, UL 2682.
1.3 Products may or may not be marked suitable as motor disconnect. Products that are marked as suitable as motor disconnect are suitable as motor disconnect when the load connector is still inserted in the source connector and in the “off” switching position, or another position clearly identified as the disconnect position. Products not marked as suitable as motor disconnect are not suitable as motor disconnect in the “off” or any other switching position, but when unplugged, disconnection from the motor is achieved.
1.4 The disconnection from the motor is achieved by products:
a) That are marked as suitable as motor disconnect. The load connector is switched to the “off” position in the source connector, or any other position clearly identified; or
b) That are not marked as suitable as motor disconnect when the load and the source connectors are mechanically separated in two parts.
