1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover power outlets, with or without integral mounting posts or pedestals, and power outlet fittings for use in accordance with NFPA 70^®, National Electrical Code^® (NEC^®).

1.2 A power outlet covered by these requirements, although not restricted to such use, is intended for use:

1. a) At outdoor locations such as on farms, at building sites, and the like, where power is required to operate portable, mobile, or temporarily installed equipment;

2. b) To supply power to a mobile home or a recreational vehicle; and

3. c) To supply shore power to boats.

This publish of ANSI/UL 231 replaces the previously published document of the same date, July 22, 2025, due to an editorial correction in 14.2, updating the power outlet marking to "Suitable for recreational vehicle site supply equipment".

This new Eleventh Edition of ANSI/UL 231 dated July 22, 2025 includes the following changes in requirements:

– Clarification of Receptacle Requirement for Marina and Boatyards; Table 10.1

– Disconnecting Means for Power Outlets Marked as RV Site Supply Equipment; 14.1 – 14.3
