1.1 This Standard covers kits intended for field installation to retrofit a host sign that complies with UL 48, Standard for Electric Signs, and installed in accordance with Article 600 of NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC®), or for factory installation in a sign intended to comply with UL 48.

1.2 Sign retrofit kits can include, but are not limited to, LED lamps and arrays, LED drivers and controllers, power supplies, controls, sensors, accessories, wiring, wire connectors, and other associated mechanical or electrical devices. The installation instructions that accompany a retrofit kits include information critical for identifying eligible host signs and proper installation of the kit.
1.3 Retrofit kits are eligible for installation in signs previously identified as compliant with UL 48 and remaining at their original installation site. Alternatively, retrofit kits can be installed in a factory setting as part of new sign assembly where the completed sign is intended to demonstrate compliance with UL 48.
